Hi, and welcome to Lief&Co. 💛

This business is very close to my heart. The idea of celebrating a new baby with a sign isn’t just something I thought up one day — it’s something I grew up with.

One of my favourite family photos is of my mom holding me as a newborn in front of our childhood home. In the yard stands a handmade wooden birth sign — a proud tradition that, in the Netherlands, meant a new baby had arrived. Back then, families would often craft their own signs, shaped like storks, teddy bears, or other sweet symbols, to share the joyful news with neighbours and friends. Nowadays, the sign has a more modern look. They are weatherproof, and they can also be called a V-sign for your window. 

In 2024, I became a mom myself to a healthy baby boy. When he was born, my mom flew in from the Netherlands and brought a birth announcement sign with her. We put it up on our window the day we got home from the hospital. You can see that very sign on the first page of our website. When I placed it in our window, I was amazed at the response — so many people stopped to comment, smile, and share in our excitement.

That moment made me realise something: families in Canada didn’t yet have this tradition, and I wanted to change that. I wanted other moms, dads, grandparents, and friends to experience the same joy I felt when my son's birth was celebrated so openly and beautifully. And so, Lief&Co. was born.

Every sign we create is handcrafted with love, and can be personalised with your baby’s name, date of birth, and details that make it uniquely yours. Whether you’re announcing your own bundle of joy, or gifting it to new parents, it’s more than a decoration — it’s a keepsake, a story, and a celebration of life.
